Calling all Artist who like to make mini art!

And Collectors who like to buy art!

Would you like to sell "Fun Size" art in a vending machine to build your following and draw collectors to your site?

The Art Candy Machine is currently located at the corner of Oak and Fairview in Burbank, CA.
In the driveway with over 100 pieces of art on the fence. (Burbank Neighborhood Gallery)

Vending machines are a great way to have your art on view, sell and promote while we are socially distancing now!

To Participate in the Art Candy Machine

Artists will:
-Make 12 pieces of original art. (See size chart for 4 options)
-11 pieces will go in the machine for sale at $5 each
-100% of the sales goes to the artist,,, 'cause hey 5 bucks should go to you!
-1 piece will be selected to be used for marketing, promotions and
be contributed to the Art Candy Machine permanent collection to be featured
in a group show of participating artists at a future date.

Art will be selected and curated on a first come first serve basis and on space availability. (4 sizes available)

Art will be featured in the Art Candy Machine for a period of 1-2 months depending on sales,
waiting list and at the discretion of the curator.

Artists are responsible for drop off art and pick up of unsold art and earnings at the designated location/time.

Answer the questions below and include an image of sample art you would like to submit for
consideration in selling in the Art Candy Machine.

If you would like to come by and test your art and its packaging to see if it fits and falls nicely we can arrange a time.

Notes:
-Keep in mind that the art (and the packaging of the art) will be in a coil style vending machine.
-It will be dropping onto a soft padded surface.
-It should be wrapped in a clear covering with nothing that might catch on the coil and prevent it from dropping.
-Included with the art should be all your contact/social media info so art collectors can find you
(to buy more of your art) and tag you on social media! Promotion!!!
-Currently the machine will be outside in the elements mostly in the shade in a well trafficked area.
There is a neighborhood gallery wall on one side (featuring 85 pieces and growing)
and a Little Free Library on the other side of the current location. It is a neighborhood destination.

Must be family friendly art as it is an active residential neighborhood.
(When things open up again the plan is to move it to inside locations in well trafficked places
like libraries, galleries, etc.)

How to create a neighborhood gallery with page protectors

I had a lot of art shows canceled and I was really missing the sense of community. I spotted the hashtag #putartinyouryard and got an idea. I put plastic pockets on my fence with a piece of cardstock in each one stamped with the words "Your Art Here". I also made a sign inviting artists of all ages to pop a piece of art in a pocket.

Well, it didn't take long and my Burbank Neighborhood Gallery grew!

Artists came by and shared their art. If you have a way to display art in your yard I highly recommend it. It really has brightened everyone's day and we could all use a little more of that :)

There are photographs, paintings, drawings, quilting, collage, and dried flowers.

So cute!
I also registered the gallery for this Saturday's National Arts Drive.
To see lots more of the art and people that contributed pop on over to my instagram feed.

Crochet Toilet Paper cozy that looks like a roll of toilet paper

toilet paper cozy, crochet toilet paper cozy, tp cozy, crochet toilet paper, stefanie Girard, pop art

I hope this crocheted toilet paper cozy that looks like a roll of toilet paper makes you laugh as much as it make me laugh. It seems like a good time to share this throw back craft, after all I think we need all the laughter we can get.

I was on a tp cozy making kick for awhile as I don't have much storage space in my bathroom so I thought fun tp cozies would be the answer. I was chatting with a friend about this and somehow the idea of making a tp cozy that looked like a roll of toilet paper would be funny.

So as a crocheter I decided to crochet a TP cozy that looked like a roll of toilet paper.

If you think this is a funny idea too here is the pattern I used originally posted over at Craftside. There are some funny comments on my original post.

To make your own TP cozy you'll need:
Materials
Gray worsted weight yarn
White Worsted weight yarn
size H crochet hook
yarn needle

How to crochet the roll of toilet paper cozy:
With the gray yarn:
Chain 4 and slip stitch to join
Chain 1
About 15 sc into circle and join
chain 1
single crochet around again, about every 3rd or 4th stitch do a second sc in the same loop. This will increase the size of the circle allowing it to stay flat. Adjust number of stitches as needed to lay flat.
Cut gray yarn and weave in the end.
With the white yarn:
SC around gray circle every few stitches doing two sc in one loop. Join each circle, then chain 1 and repeat until you have a circle the size of your roll of toilet paper. For me this was about 6 rows (circles)
For the side:
Chain 15
Chain 1 and sc into second to last stitch.
SC back into every chain stitch, chain 1, turn and sc back into every stitch. Adjust number of stitches as needed for your roll of toilet paper.
Repeat until you have a strip long enough to go around the entire roll of toilet paper plus a few inches to fall open. For me it was about 20 inches.
Stitch the top to the sides and then join the beginning of the side strip under the falling open end.
Weave in all the ends.

Giggle appropriately.

Art is not just for galleries anymore! I was invited to display my art in Karizma Hair Studio in Thousand Oaks, CA. The invitation came after I was telling the owner that we were invited by a building owner to use her lobby as a gallery. Here is another walk through video of the show that features mixed-media collage, embroidery and paintings.

Mixed-media junk journal collage with large die cut letter

die cut letter, stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles, junk journal, collage, mixed-media
Yesterday I posted the easiest Lucky St. Paterick's Day banner tutorial and I promised the first of the projects I plan to make with the outside or negative die cut leftover from the letters.

Along with the recycled die cut paper letter I used one of my watercolor pill paintings that are painted with metallic watercolors.

In addition to the pill painting and the negative outline of the die cut letter K leftover from my Lucky banner project I rubber stamped the quote "Think about it". I may add some washi tape or fabric scraps to this junk journal collage art page but for now I like it with just these elements.

How to die cut the easiest St. Patrick's Day Lucky Banner

Lucky St. Patrick's Day Banner, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles, Die cut letters
Don't you feel "Lucky" when you are crafting and you get two items out of one action? I love it and that's just what you get when you die cut these letters out of rectangles of pretty green pattern papers to make a St. Patrick's Day banner.

Gather up your green printed papers.

Then lay out the Lucky 6 inch die cut letters in the order you want the prints to be.

I trimmed down each paper to a rectangle and then die cut each 6 inch banner letter centered in the rectangle. This is where you get the second bonus letter to use the negative die cut for another project. I will post the first of those designs tomorrow so be sure to come on back!

I use a bit of washi tape to secure the large alphabet die exactly where I want it cut out on the page.
Then I simply used tiny clothes pins on a length of green cotton yarn to hang the big die cut Lucky letters.

If you were wondering- that is my pet rock in a recycled turtleneck sweater I made. The pin says, "Rockin' it old school" (pun intended) I also added a fun shamrock button to the sweater to add a bit more St. Patrick's Day fun to my display.

Easy die cut MOM Mother's day card with giant die cut letters

MOM card, Mother's Day card, die cut letters, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
I am thinking ahead to Mother's Day and if you are too how about this for a fun big MOM card that can be made out of virtually any paper combo and I used 6 inch letter dies along with some flower embellishments and a button.
MOM card, Mother's Day card, die cut letters, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
The fun part of this gate fold card is that when it is closed the first and last M of MOM meet to make 1 big M.
MOM card, Mother's Day card, die cut letters, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
I die cut 2 M's out of different striped paper and 1 O out of paper that had all different words for Mother.
MOM card, Mother's Day card, die cut letters, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
I used some old cardstock from the office supply stash I had around for the base of the gate fold card.
MOM card, Mother's Day card, die cut letters, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
I glued each of the M's down to a piece of cardstock in the same mirrored position and folded it down the center of each M and then along the inside edge of the M.
Then I cut a piece of cardstock down to the size of the O and glued them all together.
The then trimmed up the top edge of the card when it was all folded closed.

To add one fun little touch I glued a few layers of pressed flowers together along with a pretty flower button.
If you add a paper clip this can keep the card folded closed too.

How to make a Super sized die cut letter book cover

alphabet letter die cut, Liberty Sprinkles, Stefanie Girard, junk journal, book page
If you like experimenting with colorants, adhesives and coatings in you art making and crafting I have a few fun tips and tutorials for you today. I was given a Smash Pocket Folio for Christmas and I thought I'd start altering it by working on the cover.
alphabet letter die cut, Liberty Sprinkles, Stefanie Girard, junk journal, book page
Being that my name starts with "S" that was going to be my giant 6 inch die cut letter to embellish the big cover.
alphabet letter die cut, Liberty Sprinkles, Stefanie Girard, junk journal, book page
I posted a while back a tutorial on how to make watercolor paint with eye shadow and I was wondering how it would be to use the eye shadow directly on paper.
alphabet letter die cut, Liberty Sprinkles, Stefanie Girard, junk journal, book page
I wanted to get a twofer out of this eye shadow edging technique so I placed the diecut on another piece of paper and held it still so that as I applied the eye shadow along the edge with a Q-tip I would get another letter S.
alphabet letter die cut, Liberty Sprinkles, Stefanie Girard, junk journal, book page
I chose the pink outline letter S with a recycled dictionary page featuring words that begin with the letter S behind it to embellish the junk journal cover.

I first spritzed a light coating of the new spray on Matt Mod Podge onto the cover and placed the recycled dictionary page on it.

Then I spritzed another coat over the page and placed the die cut window outline of the letter S.

Finally I spritzed a final coat of Spray on Mod Podge onto the eye shadow embellished letter S.
It worked great and didn't smudge the eye shadow at all!

How to make a no-sew XO Valentine pillow

die cut letters alphabet, no-sew, applique, Stefanie Girard, Liberty Sprinkles
I am so excited about these giant 6 inch alphabet letter dies. I have been lucky enough to get an advance set of the 26 letter dies.

Do they look like something you would like to add to your die collection and use to make all sorts of things like this no-sew XO Valentine's Day pillow and other things like party banners, greeting cards, scrapbook pages, altered book pages, art, and so much more? Well, leave a comment in today's post and I will let you know when they become available!

First up I ironed some Heat n Bond onto the back of some cute pink polka dot quilt fabric.

Then I die cut the giant 6 inch letter die X first.

Then I lined up the 6 inch letter die "O" and secured it with a bit of washi tape so it didn't shift out of alignment while die cutting.

Two perfect 6 inch die cut block letters ready to iron onto a pillow case to upcycle it for Valentine's Day.

I slipped the pillow case over the pillow and used a bit of washi tape again to place the iron-on die cut six inch letters.

Then I slipped the pillow case off, pealed the backing paper of off the die cut letters and ironed the die cut letters X and O onto the pink plaid pillow case.

I am looking forward to adding all sorts of words and letters onto everything using these new 6 inch letter dies.

You too? Leave a comment and I'll keep you posted when they become available!

XOXO

Movable modern minimalist art

modern art stripes movable painting stefanie girard
I love to rearrange things. That includes my art. This piece is made of lathing strips (thin strips of wood used when you plaster walls.

Here are a bunch of arrangements:
modern art stripes movable painting stefanie girard
I like looking at an arrangement for awhile and then I move the painted strips around.
modern art stripes movable painting stefanie girard
I plan on painting some more strips of wood. It really can be endless.
modern art stripes movable painting stefanie girard

To make the base I simply made a base with the strips and put tiny nails on the vertical pieces of wood.
I did this a bit loose so the strips could move.

The bottom piece is glued in place.
