How to create a neighborhood gallery with page protectors

I had a lot of art shows canceled and I was really missing the sense of community. I spotted the hashtag #putartinyouryard and got an idea. I put plastic pockets on my fence with a piece of cardstock in each one stamped with the words "Your Art Here". I also made a sign inviting artists of all ages to pop a piece of art in a pocket.

Well, it didn't take long and my Burbank Neighborhood Gallery grew!

Artists came by and shared their art. If you have a way to display art in your yard I highly recommend it. It really has brightened everyone's day and we could all use a little more of that :)

There are photographs, paintings, drawings, quilting, collage, and dried flowers.

So cute!
I also registered the gallery for this Saturday's National Arts Drive.
To see lots more of the art and people that contributed pop on over to my instagram feed.

Crochet Toilet Paper cozy that looks like a roll of toilet paper

toilet paper cozy, crochet toilet paper cozy, tp cozy, crochet toilet paper, stefanie Girard, pop art

I hope this crocheted toilet paper cozy that looks like a roll of toilet paper makes you laugh as much as it make me laugh. It seems like a good time to share this throw back craft, after all I think we need all the laughter we can get.

I was on a tp cozy making kick for awhile as I don't have much storage space in my bathroom so I thought fun tp cozies would be the answer. I was chatting with a friend about this and somehow the idea of making a tp cozy that looked like a roll of toilet paper would be funny.

So as a crocheter I decided to crochet a TP cozy that looked like a roll of toilet paper.

If you think this is a funny idea too here is the pattern I used originally posted over at Craftside. There are some funny comments on my original post.

To make your own TP cozy you'll need:
Materials
Gray worsted weight yarn
White Worsted weight yarn
size H crochet hook
yarn needle

How to crochet the roll of toilet paper cozy:
With the gray yarn:
Chain 4 and slip stitch to join
Chain 1
About 15 sc into circle and join
chain 1
single crochet around again, about every 3rd or 4th stitch do a second sc in the same loop. This will increase the size of the circle allowing it to stay flat. Adjust number of stitches as needed to lay flat.
Cut gray yarn and weave in the end.
With the white yarn:
SC around gray circle every few stitches doing two sc in one loop. Join each circle, then chain 1 and repeat until you have a circle the size of your roll of toilet paper. For me this was about 6 rows (circles)
For the side:
Chain 15
Chain 1 and sc into second to last stitch.
SC back into every chain stitch, chain 1, turn and sc back into every stitch. Adjust number of stitches as needed for your roll of toilet paper.
Repeat until you have a strip long enough to go around the entire roll of toilet paper plus a few inches to fall open. For me it was about 20 inches.
Stitch the top to the sides and then join the beginning of the side strip under the falling open end.
Weave in all the ends.

Giggle appropriately.

Art is not just for galleries anymore! I was invited to display my art in Karizma Hair Studio in Thousand Oaks, CA. The invitation came after I was telling the owner that we were invited by a building owner to use her lobby as a gallery. Here is another walk through video of the show that features mixed-media collage, embroidery and paintings.

Here are a few more still shots:

Pom poms can make a statement in braille art

I  have been creating with pom poms my whole life. This is my first art piece created with pom poms. Braille type is created with the pom poms and this piece says "Not everything is black and white".  It is part of the Burbank Art Association Board show at the Geo Gallery titled -“Salt & Pepper - An Adventure in Monochromatic Art”
pom pom art, textile art, stefanie Girard, political art, resistance art

In the video the light is ambient. In this photo it has direct light and the "black" part of the black and white aspect of this piece is more dramatic.

Not only am I part of the show I helped hang it. It's a lot like my first career out in Los Angeles as a set decorator. Here I am with my fellow art installer Teresa after a long day of making a lot of decisions and holding up a lot of art :)

Watch a video that features close-ups of this fun case.

I was invited to create an exhibit at the Glendale Main Library of recycled art and creations.
stefanie L. Girard, Art, collage, art exhibit, gallery case, Glendale Library
This was fun to put together as I have been creating recycled things for a loooooong time! Some of these projects are from my book Sweater Surgery, some have been featured here or on other websites. And some are brand new! I hope you enjoy and like and subscribe to my YouTube channel to see more of my video walk throughs of art shows. I will have another one very soon as I just installed a piece for The Burbank Art Association's Board Member show.
